THE UNKNOWN REGIONS
The Unknown Regions are huge areas of space which are charted, but are still largely unknown to the interstellar civilization in what is considered to
be 'known space' by the majority of the galaxy. The Unknown Regions in and around the Core are largely unexplored due to impassable hyperspace
barriers and anomalies frequently found on either side of the galactic equator, or 'mid-line'. The central most region of the Unknown Regions lies
immediately west of that area, and is known as the Chaos. This region is more navigable than the area nearer to the Core, but still quite difficult to
travel safely. The region includes unusual numbers of gravity wells and singularities, supernovae remnants, and strange hyperspace conditions.
All of this has limited not only Core exploration and settlement of these regions, but also the density of interstellar civilizations native to the region.
The areas of the Unknown Regions which are more northern or more southern in the galaxy are far more navigable, but have largely not been
charted or settled due to being extremely remote. The boundaries of the Unknown Regions in the north and south slowly but surely move west
which each passing millennia, as Wild Space is slowly incorporated into organized sectors, and border regions that used to be 'unknown' become
known Wild Space. The extreme west of the galaxy is completely unknown to the civilization of the 'known' galaxy.
