THE MID RIM
The Mid Rim is an expansive region that was a somewhat 'rural' region of the galaxy in the midst of the Rim territories. The Mid Rim was originally
known as the Distant Rim or Outer Rim, but was soon designated to distinguish it as more proximal, explored, and settled than the portions still
referred to as the Outer Rim. The Mid Rim was colonized by the Core in different eras in different regions, as the circular territories in the Rim are
vast regions encompassing sectors which are in different quadrants of the galaxy. Most of the Mid Rim was not colonized until the later stages of
galactic history, with the exception of the Slice region, which was significantly settled during the galactic middle ages. The Mid Rim is a generally
less populated, however most regions are reasonably developed. It is a less significant region economically and in terms of resources, despite
notable examples of regions and starsystems which don't follow that trend. As a result, the Mid Rim featured a wide variety of planets, many of
which took advantage of their humble status to enjoy a prosperous and relatively undisturbed existence. The drawback to this lack of attention
was a reduced level of security from lawless elements, and less ability to resist corporate power emanating from the Core. Despite this, the region
was a beacon of hope for settlers seeking less crowded planets, better opportunities, and happier lives. Many of the worlds they built eventually
became prosperous and well-established societies with their own unique frontier character. Many worlds of in the Mid Rim were homeworlds
of sentient races, some of which were colonized by Human or other interstellar species, the majority of which were not spacefaring before
the arrival of interstellar civilization. Some more advanced societies were as always absorbed into the Core civilization's sphere of influence,
although usually at a much later period in galactic history. While many useful planets in the Mid Rim are settled, there are more useful or habitable
worlds in the region with little to no population. Some of populated worlds in the region are highly-developed and have significant populations.
The opening of the Hydian Way dramatically increased the extent to which this region was explored and colonized.
The New Territories
The New Territories region is a territorial and historical extension of the Northern Dependencies region of the Core and inner regions of the Rim.
The easternmost portions were colonized in the late galactic middle ages and developed in the later periods of expansion. This region would be
distinguished as the Trans-Hydian region after the opening of the Hydian Way, in the later phases of galactic exploration. It was at that time
that the majority of worlds west of the Hydian were explored or colonized, in the area still designated as the New Territories. This region was
named after its status in colonial expansion, as it was as it was largely a rural frontier of great potential and relatively easy access to the Core,
which saw a huge boom in population and economic importance. This region was sparsely populated in many areas, and in others contained
large concentrations of well-populated planets. Many important worlds in this regions were colonies of Humans or other species, along with
numerous indigenous homeworlds of consequence. The region was absorbed into Core civilization relatively late in galactic history. Worlds
seen, mentioned, or inferred in canon which lie within the New Territories in the Mid Rim, and canon races which originate there:
The Trans-Hydian (Borderlands)
The Trans-Hydian region in the Mid Rim was historically the easternmost part of the New Territories. The development of the Hydian Way in
the later stages of galactic exploration led to designation of this region as the Trans-Hydian, meaning 'across the Hydian Way', and sometimes
informally referred to as the Borderlands region. The part of the Trans-Hydian region in the Mid Rim was settled during the late middle ages
and developed during the later stages of interstellar history. It was too remote, difficult to navigate, and politically unstable in earlier time
periods to attract colonists and industry, despite its proximity to the Perlemian Trade Route. Its position along that important hyperspace route
made it the first region of the New Territories to become well integrated into Core civilization. The Trans-Hydian region is defined strictly by
the Perlemian Trade Route in the south and the Hydian Way in the north. Worlds seen, mentioned, or inferred in canon which lie within
the Trans-Hydian in the Mid Rim, and canon races which originate there:
The Slice
The Slice region in the Mid Rim is a territorial and historical extension of that region in the Inner Rim and Expansion Region, and was the only
region settled by the Core civilization until late in galactic history. It contains numerous colony worlds, as well as a great number of homeworlds of
regional species. The portion of the Slice in the Mid Rim is well populated and somewhat developed, and contains some of the densest clusters
of populated worlds in the Rim. The region was gradually absorbed into the civilization of the Core during the galactic middle ages. The region
also contained many regional powers and was heavily influenced by influences from the Outer Rim, most notably the Hutts. The Slice is strictly
defined in the north by the Perlemian Trade Route, including worlds which lie along that hyperspace route, and in the south by the Corellian Run,
including worlds which lie along that hyperspace route. Worlds seen, mentioned, or inferred in canon which lie within the Slice in the Mid Rim,
and canon races which originate there:
The Trailing Sectors
The Trailing Sectors region in the Mid Rim is an extension of that region from the Inner Rim and Expansion Region. The portion of the Trailing Sectors
in the Mid Rim was developed later in the galactic middle ages along the Rimma Trade Route. The rest of the region wasn't well-settled until the later
ages of expansion and the establishment of the Hydian Way. The Trailing Sectors in the Mid Rim were absorbed into the civilization of the Core very
late in interstellar history, and contains many well-established worlds, but are usually younger societies with moderately sized populations relative to
most regions closer to the Core. The Trailing Sectors are strictly defined by the Corellian Run in the east, and roughly by the Rimma Trade Route in
the west, containing worlds on along both sides of that hyperspace route. Worlds seen, mentioned, or inferred in canon which lie within the Trailing
Sectors in the Mid Rim, and canon races which originate there:
The Western Reaches
The Western Reaches region in the Mid Rim is an extension of that region from the Inner Rim and Expansion Region. The portion of the Western Reaches
in the Mid Rim was developed later in the galactic middle ages off of the Rimma Trade Route and Corellian Trade Spine. The rest of the region wasn't
well-settled until the later ages of expansion and the establishment of the Hydian Way. The Western Reaches in the Mid Rim were absorbed into
the civilization of the Core relatively late in interstellar history, and contains some established worlds, which are usually younger societies with moderately
sized populations relative to most regions closer to the Core. The Western Reaches is defined by a border roughly parallel to the Rimma Trade Route in
the east, and has an ill-defined border in the west, where Wild Space and the Unknown Regions begin, and few hyperspace routes are established.
Worlds seen, mentioned, or inferred in canon which lie within the Western Reaches in the Mid Rim, and canon races which originate there:
The Unknown Regions
The unorganized space of the Unknown Regions is theoretically divided into concentric rings assigning space to the various regions of known space.
Worlds seen, mentioned, or inferred in canon which lie within the Unknown Regions in the Mid Rim:
