THE INNER RIM
The Inner Rim region is the most central layer of the Rim, a vast area encompassing the greater part of the galaxy. Immediately adjacent to the Core,
the region is considered part of the 'Galactic Interior', along with the Core regions. The Inner Rim was originally known as the Unknown Reaches, and
later simply as the Rim. The Inner Rim was settled in the later stages of early exploration, and mostly integrated into Core civilization during the galactic
middle ages. It is relatively well-populated, and generally prosperous, but significantly less overdeveloped than much of the Core. The Inner Rim was
first colonized by the Core along the Perlemian Trade Route, and in subsequent millennia saw significant development in its southern regions due to
the development of major hyperspace lanes. Many worlds of the Inner Rim were homeworlds of sentient races, most of which were colonized by
Humans and other Core races, however some were advanced societies which were eventually absorbed into the Core civilization's sphere of influence.
While many worlds in the Inner Rim were pleasant and relatively free, the more remote and less developed nature of this region tended to include
a greater number of restrictive or even repressive worlds. The majority of useful planets in most parts of the Inner Rim are settled, some of which are
highly-developed, have significant populations, and are younger but well-established societies. The Inner Rim was a significant trade crossroads
which funneled resources and products in and out of the Core and the Rim. Most major hyperspace routes run through the Inner Rim.
The Negs
The Negs region in the Inner Rim is a territorial and historical extension of that region in the Core and Colonies. The organized region of the Negs is relatively
small, defined by a border roughly parallel to the Namadii Corridor in the east, and has an ill-defined border in the west, where Wild Space and the Unknown
Regions begin, and few hyperspace routes are established. No worlds seen, mentioned, or inferred thus far in canon lie within the Negs in the Inner Rim.
The Northern Dependencies
The Northern Dependencies region in the Inner Rim is a territorial and historical extension of that regions in the Core and Colonies. The Northern Dependencies
in the Inner Rim is a well-settled region containing Core colony worlds, as well as homeworlds of other races. It was integrated into Core civilization during
the later periods of the early interstellar expansion. The Northern Dependencies is defined strictly by the Perlemian Trade Route in the east, and roughly by
the Namadii Corridor in the west, containing worlds on along both sides of that hyperspace route. The development of the Hydian Way led to the further
development of this formerly frontier region, and an increasing degree of regional independence. Worlds seen, mentioned, or inferred in canon which lie
within the Northern Dependencies in the Inner Rim, and canon races which originate there:
The Slice
The Slice region in the Inner Rim is a territorial and historical extension of that region in the Colonies, and while less-dominated by Humans than most large
regions of the known galaxy, still contains numerous colonies of the Core, along with the homeworlds of many races. The portion of the Slice in the Inner Rim
is well populated, but developed worlds are not as densely clustered. The region was gradually absorbed into the civilization of the Core during the beginning
of the middle ages in galactic history, and contains numerous societies both indigenous and colonial, many of which are well-developed and have established
societies. The Slice is strictly defined in the north by the Perlemian Trade Route, including worlds which lie along that hyperspace route, and in the south by
the Corellian Run, including worlds which lie along that hyperspace route. As a result, this was the first region of the Inner Rim to be heavily colonized.
Worlds seen, mentioned, or inferred in canon which lie within the Slice in the Inner Rim, and canon races which originate there:
The Trailing Sectors
The Trailing Sectors is an expansive region extending through each layer of the Rim, from the Inner Rim to the Outer Rim. The portion of the Trailing Sectors
in the Inner Rim is the most densely populated region of the Trailing Sectors, and contains numerous Core colony worlds, along with the homeworlds of many
races. The region was named for its early development off of the Corellian Run, however colonization and development increased significantly during
the galactic middle ages with the charting of the Rimma Trade Route. The Trailing Sectors in the Inner Rim were absorbed into the civilization of the Core
in the middle part of interstellar history, and contains fewer long-established societies than interior regions, other than more advanced homeworlds of
indigenous races. There are also many worlds with significant populations. The Trailing Sectors are strictly defined by the Corellian Run in the east, and
roughly by the Rimma Trade Route in the west, containing worlds on along both sides of that hyperspace route. Worlds seen, mentioned, or inferred
in canon which lie within the Trailing Sectors in the Inner Rim, and canon races which originate there:
The Western Reaches
The Western Reaches is an expansive region extending through each layer of the Rim, from the Inner Rim to the Outer Rim. The portion of the Western Reaches
in the Inner Rim is relatively remote despite its proximity to the Core, and contains some colony worlds, along with the homeworlds of some races. The region
was named for its location relative to the rest of known space and the major hyperspace lanes, and was designated as a region after the establishment of
the Rimma Trade Route in the galactic middle ages. The Western Reaches is defined by a border roughly parallel to the Rimma Trade Route in the east, and has
an ill-defined border in the west, where Wild Space and the Unknown Regions begin, and few hyperspace routes are established. Worlds seen, mentioned,
or inferred in canon which lie within the Western Reaches in the Inner Rim, and canon races which originate there:
