THE CLONE WARS
The Clone Wars were a series of galactic conflicts composed of tens of thousands of planetary invasions, civil wars, interstellar naval battles,
and smaller engagements, lasting over three and a half years, from early in 7955 (22 BBY) to very late in 7958 (19 BBY). The Galactic
Republic was split into two competing governments by the Separatist Movement. Republic loyalists claimed the war was about preserving
the galactic union against secession, and preserving individual liberty against Separatist slavers and greedy economic interests. Separatist
loyalists claimed the war was about democratic rights, planetary sovereignty, and the corrupt state of the Republic run by greedy economic
interests. The greedy economic interests were in fact integral to both sides of the conflict, largely responsible for making the war possible,
and ultimately eliminated or neutralized as a result of their involvement. Over 12,000 starsystems initially joined the Separatist Alliance,
and while not all of those systems were former member worlds within the Republic, many were. This essentially fragmented the Republic
in two, although the Republic held the larger section, both in terms of total systems and population. While several maps of political situation
during the Clone Wars exist, most differ about details, and should only be used to gain a general sense of regional influence and the position
of forces relative to the major hyperspace lanes. Any one sector in the galaxy contains so many worlds of various sizes, that representing
the political or military situation by color should not be taken as an indication of the status of every planet within any given region.
A great many systems declared themselves neutral during the Clone Wars, usually hoping to be kept out of the fighting. The headquarters
planets of some of the galactic trade guilds were also neutral in order to facilitate their business with planets on both sides of the conflict.
The neutral systems occupied a precarious situation considering that they were still technically part of the Republic, and thus a potential
target, however larger and more visible neutral worlds were usually left alone by the Separatists at the beginning of the war for political
optics. Most of the worlds eventually formed a Council of Neutral Systems, with over 1500 planets as members. Despite their neutral status,
those neutral worlds which were members worlds in the Republic continued to be actively involved in Republic politics, and were among
the more prominent members of the Senate. Ultimately, neutrality didn't stop many of these planets from providing materials or personnel
to either side, building massive fleets for them, or participating in their politics, which was partly why Separatist and even Republic invasions
of neutral worlds happened with increasing frequency as the war progressed. Many of these worlds were put in a very difficult position by
the war, and had little choice but to remove themselves as a target or face certain destruction. Others were just traditionally independent.

OPERATIONAL LEVEL
The material and production advantages of the Republic were significant, as was the quality of their ground troops. The Republic Navy was
experienced, well armed, and unlike the clone army, was already in existence before the war began. On the other hand, the Republic had
a limited number of destroyers and smaller capital ships capable of standing up to the large Separatist Fleet, as militarization was not
a priority for the Republic before the war. The Core contained some of the largest and most skilled shipyards in the galaxy, however it would
take some time to achieve full parity with the Separatists, who were also building more ships. Combined with the limited number of troops
available at the start of the war, the Republic could only devote so many of its resources to any one region of the galaxy at the outset.
The immediate strategy was to pick their battles strategically, and to focus on their two primary goals: defending Republic worlds and supply
lines, and attacking Separatist production and strategic resources. Republic strategy was to hold the line long enough to establish stability in
the frontlines, thus maintaining some level of order to the situation in the galaxy. Once that had been achieved, the Republic took a measured
approach, targeting their offensives towards the goal of ending the war faster, while still favoring a defensive and reactive posture.
Despite the Republic's advantages economically, industrially, and in quality of troops and warriors, the Separatists had extensive financial
resources, advanced production facilities, and cutting-edge battle droids. With a 10 to 1 advantage in troops and a larger navy, the Separatists
began the war in a position to stretch the superior Republic resources, leaving them vulnerable to destruction. As a rebel organization based
primarily out of more 'rural' sectors, the Separatists would be fighting an uphill battle despite their initial advantage in military size, and needed
to press that advantage at every opportunity for any realistic possibility of long term victory. The Separatist strategy therefore continually
brought the war to new planets and regions to keep the Republic pressed and off-balance. This also allowed the Separatists to destroy or
occupy Republic worlds to make an example of those who support the Republic, and to generally create war-weariness in the galaxy.
The Separatists also had to devote significant resources to defence due to their core regions being spread around the galaxy, and
the strength of Republic forces. The Separatists also had the advantage of their army being a composite of experienced and
organized corporate militaries, and primarily made up of droids who did not require training, sleep, or food.
Each side's strategy focused on control of the vital hyperspace lanes, the connectivity of their regions of control, and strategic resources.
The Republic divided the galaxy into operational commands for the large galactic regions, which were presided over by Systems Armies, each
divided into two Sector Armies. Each Sector Army had a 'home' region they were nominally in charge of, however in practice many elements
of any Sector Army would often spend little time in their allotted sectors during the war. Republic and Separatist forces combined elements
of their navy and army seamlessly, and would assemble battle groups and task forces from diverse elements based on what was available at
the time and appropriate for the mission objectives. Initially, the majority of the Separatist military were components which were contributed
by the rebellious factions of the galactic trade guilds. These forces were under semi-autonomous control of the guild leaders on the Separatist
Council, and were often withheld for defensive purposes, however forces built for the Separatist state eventually outnumbered them.
The Republic forces were led by the Jedi, who usually fought along with the clones. Force-wielding warriors greatly outclass most opponents,
and can defeat far larger forces, but can be overwhelmed, even by numerous inferior forces. The clone army in many instances acts as a shield
and a delivery system to allow the Jedi to make critical attacks. The Separatists counter the Jedi and give their forces a similar advantage by
deploying Sith Acolytes and superhuman warriors like Grievous and Durge to lead their forces, and at times to confront the Jedi personally.
Unknown to nearly all of the galaxy, the Sith Lord who created and controlled the Alliance did not intend for them to win the war. The purpose
of their forces was to maintain a credible threat for as long as is necessary for him to transform the Republic and then enact his plan against
the Jedi. As such, Separatist tactics were always one part sound military strategy and one part unpredictable aggression. Despite this, all
the Separatist leaders including Dooku, Grievous, and the Council members from the various galactic trade guilds, had a vested interest in
victory. The Sith strategic goals were to spread depression and misery, to ruin cultures, economies, populations, and infrastructure to pave
the way for them to be rebuilt to suit the new order, leaving many people in poverty and hopelessness. Most importantly, the war allowed
the Sith to test which planets were so independent or rebellious that they would readily stand up and fight even when the Jedi were in charge.
Willing Separatist worlds were naturally occupied by the Republic during or immediately after the war, thus blunting the sharp edge of resistance
to the Empire's new galactic security state. All of this left the galaxy scarred, impoverished, and in no mood for any more war, just as intended.
The ordinary Separatist leadership and the Sith did share the goal of defeating the Jedi, as the Jedi were the roadblock to their disperate goals.
GALACTIC CONFLICT
The Commerce Treaty of 1647 (6334 BBY) was the legal basis for the neutrality of the trade guilds and commercial interests in interstellar
conflicts, with the aim of preventing economic interests from becoming strategic objectives to be battled over, which would severely impact
civilian populations. Protected by their neutrality, the large galactic trade guilds were able to act as loyal members of both competing
governments and as a neutral third party. The duality of the trade guilds kept galactic commerce from falling apart, but also allowed these
manipulative organizations to push their own agendas, fueling the conflict. While the guilds publicly disavowed their former leaders and
their corporate armies they took with them to the Separatist Alliance, and yet their factions 'loyal' to the Republic actively assisted Separatist
goals for much of the war under the guise of legal contract and trade disputes. The Trade Federation would often legally shut off trade to
worlds being invaded or contested by the Separatists, with the excuse that trade would be taking sides. While this was clear to their opponents
in the Republic, legally and politically there were no grounds to stop the guilds from playing a destructive role in Republic affairs. Not all those
leading the guilds were in favor of a Separatist victory, but their ultimate allegiance was to themselves, and the many stakeholders who
profited along with them. Despite the many potential benefits for the guilds in war and a possible Separatist victory, the 'loss' of the greater
part of their military, starship, financial, and technological resources to the Separatists strained their ordinary interstellar business, which
was already being disrupted by the war. This not only caused supply issues and economic disruption in the galaxy, it seriously effected
the finances, prestige, and political muscle of these organizations, something most would not recover from. All of this contributed to
the scarcity of resources, growing demand for supplies, and turbulent economic conditions in the galaxy. There was an actual difference
between the interests and actions of the 'loyal' factions of the guilds and those of the Separatist factions, however both sides of their
organizations shared most of the same goals. The 'loyal' factions were hedging their bets against the possibility of a Republic victory,
while attempting to maintain their power which came from their wealth and the place they occupied in the machine of galactic commerce.
While the 'loyal' faction of the guilds were actively working towards the success of the Separatist Alliance, they were also serious about their
loyalist faction staying in good official standing with the Republic, due to the likelihood of an eventual Republic victory.
Separatist occupations of Republic and neutral worlds were commonplace, resulting in absolute rule by military government. The droid
army would then act as both a garrison and a police force. Some planets were awarded as territories to Separatist leaders to further their
particular agendas. Some planets were invaded to consolidate territory, others for their strategic position. The Separatists would at times
occupy a planet and then move on, leaving behind defensive systems which effectively mined the system. It was also Separatist policy to
loot planets and bomb the civilian population when forced to retreat by Republic advances. This type of large scale atrocity was state-level
terrorism meant to dissuade worlds against resisting Separatist invasion, and to discourage the Republic from retaking loyal worlds that
had fallen. Separatist loyalists usually called reports of such actions Republic propaganda. Some planets were specifically targeted for
devastation due to their strong allegiance to the Republic, a policy which benefited Separatist aims as well as those of the Sith.
Republic invasions and occupations of Separatist worlds were usually handled in a more civilized manner, at least at the outset of the war,
due to the ethical concerns of the Jedi leadership and others in the Republic. Nevertheless, many of these assaults were devastating to
infrastructure, resulted in high numbers of civilian casualties, and killed millions of beings defending their own planets from invasion.
The Republic leaders called this restoring peace to the Republic, and pointed to the actions of the droid army as evidence of the chaos
and oppression the Separatists were bringing as the only threat to peace. They therefore ignored the honest and democratic sentiment
that made the Separatist Alliance popular in the first place. The anti-democratic motivations of the Republic, which attempted to stop
planets from freely choosing to leave the Republic, was central to the Republic's transition into an empire. The Jedi, usually the guardians
of the ideals of the Republic, were so fixated on stopping the Sith that they were willing to ignore the will of free peoples, and even lead
invasions of their worlds. Many of the worlds which formed the early Separatist Alliance were heavily opposed to the corruption of
the Republic, and its Core-centric politics. Many other Separatist worlds, like Geonosis, were never really part of the Republic, never
respected it or its ideals, and were all too eager to participate in its downfall. No matter the specific reasons a particular world willingly
joined the Separatists, a subsequent Republic invasion served to increase anti-Republic sentiment, and even create passionate hatred
where before there was only a philosophical dislike. The only way to secure such worlds was full-scale military occupation.
The emotions generated by the violence of war were converted to blind nationalism in the Republic, leading to reactionary attitudes and
a desire to respond violently, leading to pushes for more military spending and accusations of treason for those who opposed the war
strongly. Political tensions led to racism against Separatist affiliated species, and ultimately against non-Humans in general. Unscrupulous
Republic leaders used the steadily growing power of the executive branch to transform nearly every aspect of the Republic's political system,
incrementally giving rise to a security state which was enthusiastically voted for by the democratically elected members of the Senate.
The Republic increased police and military powers, increased surveillance of citizens, redefined what crimes were considered to be against
the state, and built up a far larger executive branch which was empowered to handle affairs formerly under the jurisdiction of Senate
committees or the Jedi Council. This expanded government included many prominent persons who believed the Jedi to be an archaic
hindrance to reform and modernization, and worked to remove the Jedi religion from as many aspects of the state as possible, including
their historical role as the leaders of the Republic military. This program was aided by the shift in public opinion against the Jedi, as many
citizens increasingly saw the Jedi obsession with defeating the Separatist leadership as standing in the way of peace. As a result, the state
and society was intentionally transformed into one where the privileged and powerful enjoyed even greater authority than they already
did in the deeply stratified Republic. Opposition to further militarization and state security was a minority opinion, as the longer the war
continued, the more Republic citizens desired to see the Separatists destroyed rather than reasoned with. By the end of the war, most
people and planets in the galaxy were tired of suffering, violence, economic depression, and uncertainty, and simply wished for order.
7955 (22 BBY)
The war which began on Geonosis quickly enveloped thousands of starsystems. The advanced preparation of the Separatists gave them
the initiative, with the Republic reacting to their first moves. The droid armies were too numerous, and at this early stage the Republic
Navy was outnumbered by the Separatist Fleet. This left the Jedi and the first wave of clone soldiers scrambling to contain their offensives.
The Republic's primary advantage was the superior quality of its forces, which was always mitigated by the massive size of the droid army,
both in terms of troops and in terms of complete armies capable of planetary-wide invasions. This required the Republic to temporarily
abandon many worlds to Separatist occupation. The majority of the Republic fleet was holding important positions or struggling to
contain the Separatist Fleet, leaving limited resources for offensives. Initial Republic assaults were therefore limited to strategic priorities.
The early campaigns of the Clone Wars were primarily about control of the major hyperspace lanes and military production facilities. The war
began on Geonosis where the Republic invaded to capture and shut down of the droid foundries. Separatist strategy would likewise focus on
developing an effective assault on Kamino to stop the production of clones. While initially pressed, the Republic launched offensives against
Separatist production on worlds such as Tibrin, Hypori, and Muunilinst in an effort to shut down the Separatist war machine by taking out its
large-scale droid construction facilities. The Republic campaign against Muunilinst was part of a larger move in the northern sectors of the Rim
aimed at the core territory of the InterGalactic Banking Clan, and at establishing military supply lines to reconnect isolated Republic worlds.
The threat posed by the Republic towards worlds which had declared themselves independent, and the violent response the Republic showed
at the outset of the war only increased support for the Separatist cause, just as Count Dooku predicted. The establishment of the Confederate
government rallied more starsystems to the Separatist Alliance, feeling they had security within that organization and a legitimate chance of
resisting a Republic response. The Republic's strategically minded invasions of many populated worlds which democratically chose to leave
the Republic increased the resolve of the many worlds seeking independence, and led additional starsystems to choose the Separatist side.
The largest concentration of forces at every stage of the Clone Wars were involved in struggles for control of the militarily and commercially
important hyperspace lanes. The major hyperlanes, particularly in Rim regions were in conflict for the entire war, and began the war as
the theaters with the greatest concentration of forces. Many worlds located near these routes also had resources or facilities which were of
vital strategic importance. The most significant of these theaters were in the Western Reaches, the Trans-Hydian Region, and along the Corellian
Run in the galactic southeast. Several successful Separatist invasions succeeded in isolating the majority of the Republic Army in pockets around
the Rim. In order to blunt the Separatist momentum, and reestablish supply lines to the Core, the Republic was forced to divide their already
outnumbered armies into smaller forces, leaving vital worlds with less than adequate garrisons.
The Corellian Run was the nearest major route to the clone factories of Kamino, and was also the crossroads the Separatists would need to
control in order to link their core regions and present a unified front in the Outer Rim. Republic resolve in this region in the first year of the war
lead to a lack of solid cohesion between the more significant Separatist territories in the Rim. Grievous nevertheless was able to consolidate
Separatist gains throughout the adjacent sectors, and expand control in areas north of the Corellian Run, and coreward along the Run into
the Mid Rim and Expansion Region. By the end of the first calendar year, both sides began to amass larger fleets for objectives, as significant
naval and troop reinforcements begin to arrive, and battlelines had become stabilized to some degree.
7956 (21 BBY)
Despite establishing parity and effective lines against the Separatist advance, Republic forces were still outnumbered and hard-pressed by
ferocious Separatist attacks. The situation in the northeastern part of the galaxy, in the Trans-Hydian region and along the Perlemian Trade
Route, remained highly unstable into the second calendar year of the war. This region's importance to galactic trade and travel as well as its
populous and politically significant worlds left it in continuous conflict. At the start of 7956 (21 BBY), the still outnumbered Republic fleet
in the region was losing the battle in the sky, leaving surface forces in a disadvantaged position and leading to many withdrawals and retreats
to save their forces from annihilation. Planets like Felucia and those in or adjacent to the Tion Cluster which were strategically important
due to location as well as intrinsic value were destined to bear the full brunt of the conflict.
About a year into the war a stalemate had developed in most regions of the galaxy. Separatist momentum slowed and Republic forces achieved
enough theater-level parity with the Separatists to regroup for serious counteroffensives, and was in position to mount counteroffensives to
retake territory they were forced to concede earlier in the war. The addition of new navy ships and clone reinforcements made this possible,
but their resources were still limited, leaving little margin for defeat. At the same time, some Separatist worlds which had been subdued by
the Republic proved too rebellious for the troops which could be spared to garrison them. As the year progressed, the Republic moved to limit
Separatist expansion in the highly contested northern regions of the galaxy, leading the Separatists to launch a series of major campaigns in
the southern and southeastern regions of the galaxy, once again attempting to catch the Republic off-balance and stretched to defend its huge
number of planets. This also provided Grievous the opportunity to launch an invasion of Kamino, which was destructive but repelled.
Republic victories outnumbered their losses in the Rim, but despite their success, their ability to gain traction was limited by the thousands
of armies deployed against them. Tracking the movements of Separatist forces was difficult, and made all the more so by their unpredictable
strategy and expanding front lines. The Separatists begin to retake some of the initiative in the Rim, leaving Republic resources stretched,
both in terms of military forces and strategic resources. The Republic faced some understandable regional fuel shortages, which affected
their strategic progress. The Republic's counteroffensives in southern regions of the galaxy, largely in the hotly contested Trailing Sectors
and the Western Reaches, containing important hyperspace routes and many populous planets, were hampered by supply considerations.
By the end of the calendar year, the progress the Republic made in securing areas around the Perlemian Route made that previously collapsing
front for the Republic stable again. Victories in the northern regions of the Rim and newly available reinforcements deployed to secure
the Hydian Way prevent the Separatists from disrupting the Republic supply lines to these areas. This began a trend of Republic successes in
the Rim, which naturally led to the Separatists varying their tactics. Instead of concentrating their forces in a defensive posture where they
would have faced tactically superior Republic forces, the Separatists once again widened the scope of their assaults, first throughout the Rim,
and even further towards the Core, keeping the Republic off-balance, and often unable to devote forces to major offensive campaigns.
7957 (20 BBY)
The southern regions of the galaxy contained dense pockets of Separatist and Republic worlds with enough local resources to withstand
siege, which were also strategically vital. Both sides concentrated extensive forces in the Western Reaches and the Southern Core, and
while warfare was constant, progress was slow. The important trade routes which traversed the region were vigorously contested.
Separatist campaigns in the southern galaxy near the beginning of 7957 (20 BBY) attempted to break the Republic lines with only limited
success. The Separatists shifted the focus of their attacks inward towards the Core to outflank Republic forces and draw some of them
out of the Outer Rim, a strategic success which was part of an overall strategy being implemented in the other regions of the galaxy.
Separatist military and political advances continued in the Expansion Region, further shifting the momentum of the war away from
the Outer Rim inwards toward the Core. The regional hyperspace routes in the more central sectors become of increasing strategic
importance, necessitating the Republic to once again spread its defensive forces thin. In order to counter this momentum, the Republic
launched a series a blitz offensives to retake territory and remove Separatist strongholds which dominate regional hyperspace routes.
As the year went on, and Republic victories eventually slowed those advances to a new equilibrium, the Separatists again advanced
their offensives towards the Core, and generally expanded the range of their assaults into the Inner Rim and the Colonies regions.
It took until the end of the calendar year for the Republic to once again establish an effective counter.
In the Rim, battlelines began to contract, the Republic gained ground, and the Separatists fell back to more secure space, but also
annexed worlds closer to their major pockets of control. The most significant Separatist successes in the Outer Rim were mostly in
the continually contested Trans-Hydian region and along the Perlemian Trade Route, where they managed to slow Republic progress
towards their capital sectors. In the northern galaxy, Separatist campaigns in the Mid Rim and Expansion Region were mostly rebuffed,
allowing the Republic to consolidate forces and isolate Separatist regions and begin to retake them, often resulting in planetary sieges.
Civil wars and shifting political allegiance were common during the Clone Wars, due to the climate of Separatist and Republic politics,
and the strain of two and three years of war only increased their frequency. Tensions between pro-Republic and pro-Separatist groups
within populations boiled-over, resulting in more civil wars, revolutions, insurrections, and military occupations. Both galactic governments
intentionally stoked these tensions when it served their purposes of attempting to bring that planet into their alignment. The Separatists
tended to use political and economic intrigue far more than the Republic at every stage of the war. Worlds that had consistently proven
completely unwilling to betray the Republic are also specifically targeted for destruction, by internal politics or direct invasion.
The Separatists invasions of neutral planets also steadily increased. While always willing to occupy a planet for some strategic purpose,
the Separatists moved much more cautiously in regard to the neutral systems, as such moves tended to have more political fallout.
While many smaller neutral systems were taken for strategic purposes, the Separatist armies increasingly raid smaller neutral worlds
of little strategic value to enslave their population for one of the industrial or slave labor interests which were part of the Separatist
Alliance. Other neutral worlds were targeted for destruction simply because they were considered a threat by Separatist leaders.
While most battles in the Clone Wars were between the two warring sides, many wars were fought by one power against local forces.
7958 (19 BBY)
The situation in the Rim primarily degenerated into Republic sieges of Separatist worlds and regions for much of the last year, with
the Separatists more often on a defensive footing, while the momentum of Separatist offensives continued to shift to the Core.
The Republic launched offensives to fragment the core Separatist areas and isolate vital political and military targets for siege or
capture. Republic consolidation in the Rim was slowed by the ever expanding threat of Separatist offensives in the Inner Rim and
the regions of the Core. The material and production advantages of the Republic had clearly asserted themselves, and the Republic's
eventual victory was all but certain. The Separatists increased the menace of their assault in order to maintain parity, and to press
their largest remaining advantage, that of greater troop numbers. While the Republic had gained an overall advantage in fleet size
and naval resources, the size of the droid army allowed the Separatists to pose a threat to the populous and economically important
worlds of the Core, which required the Republic to devote significant resources to defensive action.
The Outer Rim Sieges is the term commonly used to describe planetary wars that took place near the end of the Clone Wars, where
Separatist lines had collapsed down to well-protected and vital installations or planets, and were isolated and surrounded by Republic
forces. These sieges often last months or much of a year, with some only ending with the surrender and deactivation of the droid army.
The Separatists attempted to concentrate their forces around facilities capable of building more armaments and war material, with
the aim of buying time to resume an offensive footing. The Outer Rim Sieges were the culmination of the Republic's years of effort
building forward momentum in the Rim. Having consolidated territory, secured hyperlanes, and established a secure system of supply
lines and regional strongholds, the Republic moved to deliver crippling blows to the centers of Separatist power in the Rim. Republic
victories were often costly and time-consuming, which is why these offensives usually devolved into prolonged sieges. This map, while
illustrative of the general situation, does not show the many hundreds or thousands of battles considered to be part of these sieges.
The Separatists were not on a purely defensive footing in the Rim, and the Outer Rim Sieges also involved rapid and unexpected Separatist
invasions of worlds left undefended by the Republic concentration of forces around strategically vital targets. These moves were designed
to keep the Jedi as busy as possible, as they were already taxed for manpower but also unwilling to let civilian populations suffer for strategic
goals. As a result, the vast majority of Jedi Knights were spread around the Rim, or dispersed throughout the Core, fighting in heated conflicts.
In the weeks leading up to the end of the war, a huge wave of these desperate surprise invasions were launched across the Rim, to draw out
as many Jedi from Coruscant as possible by seizing or besieging countless unsuspecting Republic and neutral worlds. The Separatist campaigns
had increasingly devolved into targeting peaceful, neutral, vulnerable, or prosperous worlds for destruction, economic collapse, and even
enslavement. The Separatist strategic posture deteriorated rapidly, as they were secretly being led to their intended end by their Sith leaders.
While the greater part of each military was engaged in the Rim, the battles in the Core at the end of the Clone Wars were some of the largest
engagements of military forces in galactic history. The battles of Anaxes and Coruscant were the culmination of years of Separatist advances
towards the Inner Core, finally assaulting one of the most ancient Republic strongholds, only a week before a move against the capital itself.
Although the Republic was clearly on a trajectory for victory, the threat level and climate of fear in the Core was as high in last months of
the war as any previous point. The strategic importance of the primary worlds of the Republic led to massive concentrations of warships and
troops. The Battle of Coruscant was the single largest naval engagement of the war, and precipitated a chain of events which brought the Clone
Wars to their conclusion. The conclusion of the war was brought about by the corrupt forces which had engineered it in the first place.
The defeat or retreat of most Separatist forces in the Core regions coincided with major Republic victories and forward progress in the Outer
Rim. While some of the long-standing sieges resulted in occupation, and many of the Jedi and reserve forces which were widely dispersed in
the last weeks to counter the unpredictable invasions were also meeting with success, the vast majority of forces were still engaged in pressing
combat, both those fighting to cripple the Separatist strongholds, and those defending civilian populations. Most remaining Separatist forces
fell back to the shrinking pockets in the Rim where the Separatists were amassing their forces, as did General Grievous and the Separatist Council.
The remaining Separatist leadership were betrayed by their Sith benefactor, leading to the final battle on Utapau, and the massacre of the Council
on Mustafar, after which the droid army was ordered to deactivate. The Grand Army of the Republic and its clones assumed a military occupation
of remaining Separatist worlds, and maintained their defensive forces on the many planets already under Republic control as part of the new
security apparatus of the Galactic Empire, an organization formed out of the Republic for the stated purpose of preventing another galactic civil
war. The Jedi Order needed to be removed to bring about the Empire, and thus was charged with treason and subsequently blamed for the war.
The Republic, and therefore the Empire, was victorious in the Clone Wars, producing the result which its chief architect desired.
