The Separatist Alliance | The Confederate Military | The Clone Wars
The Confederate military was originally formed from the navies and droid armies of the galactic trade guilds, combined with
an additional droid army built specifically for the Separatist Alliance. Those resources dwindled but were continually reinforced
by Separatist military production, which was considerable. The leadership was dominated by organic officers from Separatist
worlds, however the vast majority of personnel were droids in both branches of the military. General Grievous was the marshal
and supreme commander of all armed forces, and reported only to the Confederate leader Count Dooku.
THE SEPARATIST FLEET
The Confederate Navy began the Clone Wars larger and better equipped but far less organized, as it was initially composed principally
out of corporate fleets, most significantly that of the Trade Federation as well as significant contributions from the Commerce Guild
alongside smaller components. These fleets were augmented with the production of new vessels, as well as new large warships built
specifically for the Separatist Fleet. The fleet also included smaller contingents of starships from member worlds. Most naval personnel
were battle droids, however the Confederate Navy had many organic officers in leadership positions.
Leadership
The admiralty of the Separatist Fleet was subordinate to General Grievous, and ultimately to Count Dooku as well. Naval officers in
the field were usually the most senior commander in charge of the overall operation, including army forces, although not always.

Starfleet
The Separatist Fleet was composed of thousands of warships, support vessels, and starfighters. The majority of the Fleet was constructed
by elements of the Trade Federation or Commerce Guild. The Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps, part of the Quarren Isolation League
and an affiliate of the Commerce Guild, was a primary manufacturer of the dreadnoughts and other mega-warships which came to
dominate the fleet during the later half of the Clone Wars, supplanting the older battleships and destroyers as the main capital ships.
Grievous' flagship at the start of the war was the experimental battleship Malevolence, lost during early engagements. At the end of
the war the flagship was the Invisible Hand, which went down in Episode III, less than a week before the Separatist Fleet was disbanded.

THE SEPARATIST DROID ARMY
The Confederate Army was initially composed of the Droid Army built for the Alliance in preparation for the Clone Wars, combined
with the bulk of the private security droid armies of the galactic trade guilds. This army also fought alongside local defense forces of
member worlds during Republic invasions. The Army was continually expanded during the Clone Wars, but more or less maintained
a consistent size throughout due to their high casualty rates. The Droid Army outnumbered the Clone Army by more or less than 10 to
1 during the war, giving them an advantage in numbers and ability to disseminate large forces. These advantages were needed to make
up for the significant superiority of Republic ground forces. The Army was primarily led by droid officers, however many of its general
staff and field commanders were organic officers. The Droid Army was deactivated after the 'surrender' of the Separatist Council.
Leadership
The Separatist Droid Army was under the direct authority of Count Dooku, with General Grievous serving as Supreme Commander.
Some Army commands were based on politics or prior status within the galactic trade guilds, however out of necessity most officers
earned their positions by demonstrating obedience to the command structure and effectiveness in the field.

Forces
The Droid Army was divided into Divisions, subdivided into Regiments, Battalions, Companies, Sections, and finally Squads. There were units
of droids designed and equipped for specialized operations. The Droid Army utilized a variety of combat vehicles and weapons, much of which
was cutting edge military technology produced by major arms manufacturers, however due to its composite and irregular nature, it at times
utilized technology that was originally meant for peaceful purposes that was repurposed as military technology.
