THE SEPARATIST ALLIANCE
The Separatist Alliance was formed from the Separatist Movement, a political coalition for planetary sovereignty, backed by the power and
influence of significant factions within the major galactic trade guilds. The Separatist Crisis began in 7953 (24 BBY), and while the Movement
grew openly over the next two years, the Alliance was secretly formed, and preparations for war were begun. When the Alliance was openly
declared and the Clone Wars began in 7955 (22 BBY), the 10,000 starsystems which signed the Alliance Treaty formed the core of an interstellar
state known as the Confederacy of Independent Systems, which was often still referred to as the Separatist Alliance. Despite its superficial
appearance as a decentralized and democratic state, the Alliance was secretly controlled by the Sith and dominated by corrupt economic
interests. The Sith created the Alliance to appear to be a legitimate independent state to the galaxy at large, and at the same time openly
appear to the Jedi to be a resurrection of the ancient Sith Empires. While its Sith creators never intended for it to survive the Clone Wars,
the efforts of Confederate planets and the trade guilds to succeed made the Alliance a serious competitor to the Republic for the first few
years of the Clone Wars. The Alliance was primarily based in the Rim regions, and typically stood against the power of the Core civilization
and the corrupt Republic which imposed its interests upon the more remote regions of the galaxy. The official elements of the Alliance
were disbanded in 7958 (19 BBY), when the Clone Wars ended along with the Republic era.
LEADERSHIP
The Separatist Alliance was led by an executive body known as the Separatist Council, and a legislative council known as the Separatist Parliament.
The constitution which facilitated the Separatist government was known as the By-Laws of Independent Systems. The Parliament and the Council
where both led by Count Dooku, the leader of the planet Serenno, who had been the principal leader of the Separatist Movement. He became
the head of state when the Clone Wars began in Episode II, and served as leader for nearly the entire existence of the Alliance, until his death
in Episode III. As a result, General Grievous led the Separatist Council for the last three days of the Separatist government's existence.
Separatist Council
The Separatist Council was the ministerial body in charge of the executive branch of the Confederate government, responsible for the military,
trade and communications infrastructure, troop and warship manufacturing, and administration of conquered planets. As a confederacy,
the various leaders on the Council had a degree of proprietary command over the resources they brought to the Alliance. The leaders of
the factions of the major galactic trade guilds which joined the Alliance were given seats on the Council, as well as a seat for the Corporate
Alliance, with an additional seat for the Trade Federation, likely due to how much of the initial Separatist military they provided. Geonosis was
given a seat for the same reason, as they were the other most significant contributor to the Separatist Army. The Quarren Isolation League was
given a seat due to their importance as a starship manufacturer. The Hyper-Com Cartel was created as a Separatist alternative to Republic
HoloNet for communications and data transfer, and was led by Po Nudo, a member of the Republic Senate until the Clone Wars began.
Separatist Parliament
The Separatist Parliament, also known as the Separatist Senate or Separatist Congress, was the legislative body of the Confederate government,
made up of delegates from Separatist member worlds. It was an interstellar congress similar to the Galactic Senate, but more functional than
its Republic counterpart during its brief existence, as it was less hampered by endemic corruption and had a revolutionary faction which openly
resisted the influence of large economic interests. Individual Separatist systems and sectors were represented by Senators, some of whom were
members of the Galactic Senate before seceding to the Separatists. The Commerce Guild and the Corporate Alliance also held seats in Parliament
the same way as the trade guilds in the Republic, either by virtue of their importance, or because they represent worlds which have become
synonymous with those organizations. As leader, Dooku led the proceedings, and the Parliament also had a Speaker to enforce procedure.

MEMBERSHIP
The Confederacy was made up of over 12,000 starsystems, with hundreds of thousands of inhabited or habitable planets under its continually
shifting jurisdiction. Sufficiently populated planets whose governments aligned themselves with the Separatists constituted the member worlds,
which were theoretically sovereign and independent. The Confederate government and the affiliated factions of the galactic trade guilds also
controlled many minor worlds where facilities, bases, outposts, and economic operations took place. The majority of Separatist worlds were
located in the Rim regions, as was Raxus its capital planet. Raxus was chosen for its political and economic influence and its historical role as
a center of Rim-based political and military power, however there were also many Separatist worlds located in the Core regions.
