The New Republic was a federal and democratic interstellar political order, presumably with member worlds spread throughout the galaxy,
which claimed to be the arbiter of interstellar affairs as the most dominant power. The New Republic was based in the galactic Core, and
was philosophically at odds with the First Order, a rising empire based in peripheral regions of the galaxy. The New Republic's capital,
government, and military were destroyed in Disney Sequel 8011 (34 ABY). It is unknown if the organization persisted despite this loss.

CIVILIZATION
The interstellar civilization of the New Republic was highly-federated, emphasizing planetary independence and sovereignty.
The New Republic civilization saw itself as pan-galactic and multicultural, and promoted a peaceful and democratic order
in the galaxy. Like any civilization, the New Republic's worlds were united by language, commerce, currency,
communication systems, record keeping, and historical memory.

Language
The people of the New Republic presumably used an unknown multitude of unique languages, however the most commonly used language
is called Basic, which is of course in reality English or which ever language you are watching it in. While several other alphabets have been
seen, especially those used to write languages other than Basic, the most widely used alphabet was Aurebesh, named for its first two letters.


Interstellar Commerce
Interstellar trade and commerce was likely vital to the New Republic, and was the primary reason the New Republic existed a stable
political entity. Based on supplementary material, it seems the New Republic became dominated by large commercial interests in
the decades since the Empire in this reality collapsed. Many of these mega corporations had merged, becoming even larger and
more powerful in politics. Kuat-Entralla Drive Yards was so wealthy and powerful, it was able to arrange the construction of
a large and illegal fleet of gigantic warships for the First Order, despite being a nominally loyal subject of the New Republic.


Currency
A variety of currencies were used in the New Republic, but the most common was probably the galactic standard Credit.


HoloNet
HoloNet was the primary interstellar communications and data transfer system utilized by the galaxy. It was presumably a decentralized
network of local and planetary transmitters which was augmented by regional and local transmission and relay stations maintained by
the central government. It is unclear what, if any, controls the New Republic exercised over the use of this system.


LEADERSHIP

The New Republic was led by a congress known as the Senate. The New Republic Senate had the legislative and executive authority over
New Republic worlds. Local planetary governments were considered sovereign and autonomous except concerning matters delegated
to the Senate by the Charter. The New Republic Courts were autonomous of the Senate, but were subordinate to its legislative directives.
Each world or sector's delegation could contain additional Senators or other representatives, but only received one vote in session.
Their leadership was apparently politically hamstrung by philosophical divides and indecisiveness concerning the rise of the First Order.

The only known Chancellor of the New Republic was Lanever Villecham, whose term ended when he was killed in DS 8011 (34 ABY).


MEMBERSHIP
The New Republic was made up of an unknown number of member worlds, and presumably held jurisdiction over many more inhabited
planets with populations too small to be members but which were voluntarily associated, as well as many habitable worlds with little to
no population which were found within the New Republic's territory. The capital of the New Republic was Hosnian Prime, until that
world was destroyed in DS 8011 (34 ABY). No other worlds were confirmed as New Republic members:

UNDERWORLD
As it is assumed to have had a huge population, the New Republic had an extensive criminal underworld. One powerful crime syndicate
was the Guavian Death Gang, which controlled regional territories and operated with little interference. They were also engaged in
piracy, which was another significant problem in the time period of the Resistance War.


THE NEW REPUBLIC DEFENSE FORCES

The New Republic Defense Forces was a modest military force whose task was the defense of the Republic. It was almost entirely
destroyed in DS 8011 (34 ABY) due to its strategic incompetence, the New Republic's ineffectual government, and their
philosophy of military minimalism. The NRDF was a philosophically conflicted organization which was tasked with organizing
defense but ordered to maintain both a small size and strategically unwise deployment. The NRDF had at least two primary branches,
the New Republic Defense Fleet and the New Republic Starfighter Corps, and presumably also had a limited New Republic Army.
The High Command served as the general staff of the New Republic military, who reported directly to the Chancellor and the Senate.

The New Republic Starfighter Corps was a distinct branch of the New Republic Defense Fleet, which maintained its own facilities,
personnel, and equipment. NRSC squadrons served as the primary patrol and reconnaissance force of the New Republic.

Navy

The New Republic Defense Fleet was "cherished" by the New Republic as its primary instrument of enforcement, as it was supposed
to be the single most powerful force in the galaxy. Despite this, it was significantly limited in size due to treaty, remaining only large
enough to maintain defensive potential and to enforce interstellar security. The failure of the New Republic leadership to understand
the threat of the First Order meant that the Navy was not significantly increased in size in the years leading up to the Resistance War.
The New Republic's insistence on stationing their entire fleet above their capital led to its total loss in DS 8011 (34 ABY).
